Well, the 2008-2009 school year is in the books and thus ends our charter year of the DCS Key Club. This year saw not only the beginning of a new club at DCS, but the commencement of a new means of service on the DCS campus through the Kiwanis Key Club.
However, the end of the school year doesn't mean the end of Key Club. Over the course of this summer, incoming Key Club officers will be working with past officers to create a strategy for Club growth, promotion, service, and unity for the 2009-2010 year.
Key Clubbers, please be looking for communication from your new officers and don't forget to check back here for news regarding summer opportunities through Key Club. We will continue to update the calendar and keep you informed of service projects, parties, and other Key Club activities.
Officers, mark your calendars! On June 11 at 4:30 pm there will be a party for incoming officers. Plan to come to Kayleigh and James' house for a time of fun, games, and brainstorming for next year.
Thanks for a great year! I'm excited for next fall.

Recycle Event a Success!

Thanks to all the volunteers who showed up to help in our first annual Damascus Clean-Up Week Recycle Event! On Saturday, May 9, thirty-two volunteers from Damascus Christian School's Key Club, Damascus Community Church, and The Journey Church joined staff from Hoodview Disposal, Damascus Computers, and the City of Damascus at a recycle center held in Damascus Community Church's parking lot.

Two large flat-bed trucks and even larger trailers were needed to receive the many items ranging from projection televisions to computer keyboards, and batteries & eyeglasses to block styrofoam. In addition dozens of recycle bins full of document paper were shredded.
Many thanks to Dan O'Dell at the City of Damascus for allowing the DCS Key Club to participate in this community-wide event and to the members of the Damascus-Boring Kiwanis Club for the great BBQ picnic lunch at the Damascus Park.
For the Key Club,
Andy McClellan, Faculty Advisor

Chartering Ceremony Message
Damascus Clean-Up Event, May 9
On May 9 from 10a-3p, the City of Damascus, Hoodview Disposal, Damascus Computers and the DCS Key Club will be hosting a community clean-up event here at the church (map). See the article on pg. 2 in the City of Damascus newsletter for more information.
The DCS Key Club will be responsible for much of the coordination, including the recruiting of volunteers. Many hands are needed as this can potentially be a very large event. There are many ways that you can be involved from serving as a greeter at the information table, to hauling electronic equipment, to throwing Styrofoam into cardboard boxes. There is something for everyone!
If you can volunteer to be there on the 9th, please contact me ASAP at andymcclellan@damascuscc.org or 503.658.3179 x109 so that I might pass that information on to our volunteer coordinator (a Key Clubber) for the event. Please include:
1) Your Name
2) Best way to reach you (phone or email)
3) Number of hours you can work
4) Preferred time of day (before noon or after)
Thanks,
Andy McClellan
